Are you Optimised for Voice Search?

One of the biggest changes to how businesses use SEO will most certainly be the increasing rate of voice search.

The most recent statistics from Google report that 20% of all Google searches are now done by voice. What might have seemed like a novelty a few years ago has now become a necessity in our everyday lives with 41% of adults and 51% of teens using voice search DAILY. If you haven’t optimized your content for voice search, you’re missing out!

Luckily, we can show you some tips on how to optimize your website for voice search!

1. Long-tail Keywords
There is quite a difference in the way people search online using their voice compared to typing. When searching for an Italian restaurant near where you live you might type “Italian Restaurant Brisbane”. However, voice searches are much longer and use natural language. That search then may become “Google what is the best Italian restaurant near me”.

If you’re only optimizing for short-tail keywords you will be missing out on these searches. Generally, these searches tend to be longer and contain more keywords because the searcher knows what they want and is close to the bottom of the sales funnel.

2. Conversational Language
This ties in with targeting long-tail keywords within your SEO strategy. By using conversational language throughout your website, you will be able to provide the best response to user’s queries. If you can provide the best answer to a common question, you’re much more likely to appear on Google’s Featured Snippets

Another easy way to get started is to create a FAQs section on your website. Think of questions that your customers or clients and word them in a way that mimics how they might search for the answer.

3. Mobile-Friendly
With the majority of voice searches being performed on a mobile device, it is a necessity that your site is mobile-friendly. You can’t afford for visitors on your site to leave immediately due to a poor user experience. Doing so will cause a high bounce rate which will drop your overall ranking.
