The Project
The website requirements were to be AA compliant which ensures there are two forms of communication for every item on the site, covering visual/audio communication as a requirement of Government. The brief was simple: ensure it is a clean and simple website to use with clear communication and ensure the ‘three click’ rationale was in play for all pages. It also needed to highlight the four key areas of Infrastructure NSW and their role in government.
The UX
Our Design and Development team worked together to devise a color palette that was based closely on INSW’s current colors but were compliant with WCAG contrast requirements.
Headings are large and easily read, with no font sizing being below 12pt. Users also have the ability to increase the font size by 200% without loss of content or functionality. Carefully coded content panels ensure that page length stays under control for content-heavy pages without sacrificing accessibility.
Customer Journey
The ‘three click rule’ is an unofficial web design rule concerning the design of website navigation. It suggests that a user of a website should be able to find any information with no more than three mouse clicks. This rationale was carefully implemented through the website.
The Solution
Accessibility was applied when it came to the responsiveness of the website on both mobile and tablet devices.
The website also boasts a fully integrated interactive map application. We were able use INSW’s existing infrastructure data and present it in a visually interesting way by overlaying the information on a map.
